The search for clean beauty.

The trials and tribulations of trying to find clean beauty brands that work….
I first started trying clean beauty products in the late 2010s and it wasn’t an easy road. I felt discouraged and like I was hemorrhaging money. I’d tried so many brands that just flat-out didn’t work. I have super dry skin and I’d put the products on my face and have to reapply multiple times a day or they wouldn’t absorb into my skin and it felt like I could just peel it off. Not fun. And expensive.
Clean beauty shouldn’t be so hard to find.
I remember seeing this brand at my naturopath’s office called Beautycounter and I first tried the hand soap and hand lotion. It was a light citrus scent and I liked it enough to google it … but I wasn’t convinced after so many disappointments.
After my birthday in 2021, I took the plunge and first bought some holiday gift packages that Beautycounter launched… I thought it was a great way to treat myself and to get to try these products I was hearing so much about. (In hindsight, it never occurred to me to ask if I could get some samples to try without buying first. So if you’re interested, message me and I can hook you up!) That year I placed four orders between November and January because everything I got I freaking LOVED!!!! I even bought some of these beautiful gift sets for friends for Christmas.
I haven’t looked back since. I moved from makeup to skincare to bath & body and have been slowly switching everything. I’d love to say I’m an expert in everything clean, but that’s not true. But I’m on a mission to continue to learn more about the little choices I can make to use safer and cleaner products because every change adds up over time to reduce our toxic load. This is even more important to me after this past year when I struggled with a life-changing autoimmune condition on top of other conditions I’ve had.
I searched high and low for things I could try to lessen the toxic load on my body to allow it to focus on healing. It wasn’t as easy as I had hoped to find information or recommendations. That’s why I wanted to create this blog so that I could pass along what I’ve learned (and what I’ll continue to learn) with others. If you have any recommendations on books, resources, brands or products that you’ve tried and worked on - let me know!
